Primary Healthcare

Health Points:

The Health Points function in the community centre to mobilize the community in health, identify health problems and risks and support community initiatives to address risks and to build health knowledge at individual, family and community levels, including individual and family health counselling, health CLIs, and cooperation with community resources in health and health actors to ensure meeting health needs of PoCs.

Health Point Components and Services

Each health point consists of two rooms: one is equipped to carry out health awareness, the other is a medial consultation room, equipped with a medical examination bed, some basic medical equipment, including nose-ear-throat examination devices and a special penlight, a blood pressure monitor, a glucose meter, an oxygen meter, a stethoscope, a steriliser, in addition to a baby scale, an adult scale, a thermometer, a breathing apparatus (simple device in case of asphyxia), a chair for people with disabilities (adult and young), a walker and crutches.

As of 2023, SSSD has 10 health points in partnership with UNHCR in 7 governorates, namely Aleppo, Idleb, Hama, Homs, Deir Ezzour, Tartous, and Hassakeh.


Reproductive Health:

Through this program, the Syrian Society for Social Development aims to raise awareness of reproductive health for all groups, in addition to providing the necessary medical services for women and adolescent girls, especially during pregnancy and beyond. Furthermore, the activities implemented include:

  • Awareness campaigns/sessions on reproductive health issues
  • Medical consultations for women and girls
  • Family planning
  • Echo device
  • Prescribing and providing the necessary medications
  • Early detection of breast and cervical cancer
  • Treatment of gynecological and urinary infections
  • Pregnancy and postpartum care service

As of 2023, SSSD has 8 mobile units in 5 governorates, including Daraa, Deir Ezzour, Aleppo, Homs and Hama.

 

Sterilization Initiative at the Centers of the Syrian Society for the Prevention of Blindness - Aleppo

The Syrian Society for Social Development conducted disinfection campaign for the Syrian Society for the Prevention of Visual Impairment. The campaign included raising the awareness level of the beneficiaries (especially visually impaired children) about the prevention means against Coronavirus, the ramifications of getting infected, how to discover infected cases and what to do.

The campaign also included carrying disinfection works and distributing hygiene kits in the premises of the NGO: the HQ Office in Al Sabeel Neighborhood, the Forum of Visually Impaired People in Al Jameliyyeh Neighborhood, and the Eye Care Polyclinics in Al Sakhour Neighborhood.

The Manager of the Syrian Society for the Prevention of Visual Impairment expressed his gratitude for targeting a marginalized group of the community, visually impaired children and their parents, and raising their awareness about the virus. Some beneficiaries expressed revealed their relief about the disinfection works, especially disinfecting children’s rooms.

100 families of visually impaired members benefited from the campaign.
