Many professions and industries in Suran, especially small and micro enterprises, were directly affected by the crisis. Based on needs assessment and monitoring visits, especially in the most affected areas, Suran region, an urgent need has emerged to support the region with professions and labor, in order to revive sustainable livelihoods and contribute in economic and social recovery.
This project aims to restore the livelihoods of returnees in Suran area, whose livelihoods have deteriorated due to their displacement from their original areas of residence in the northern part of Hama Governorate, Suran and its countryside.
The project focuses on returnees with sufficient professional experience, who have lost their equipment due to their displacement and, therefore, they only need to provide them with professional equipment for project on income-generating activities by setting up micro-enterprises.
The project also seeks to provide sustainable living opportunities for families and communities, and support self-reliance for vulnerable groups, by reviving professions and establishing small or micro businesses. Through providing small projects to beneficiaries returning after the recent crisis and those who lost their equipment or work tools because of their displacement, and motivated to revive and succeed their projects in accordance with the requirements of the labor market and the criteria approved for project selection.
Moreover, Choosing occupations that are in line with the original beneficiary’s profession and that meet the basic needs of the local market, priority will be given to projects that require labor intensive, and professions owned and managed by women. In addition to professions that can generate more job opportunities, and for breadwinners of large families, persons with disabilities and female households.
Launching the project and receiving stakeholder requests. Conducting an analysis of the local market, to end with the final list of professions from the list of pre-determined professions, examining the applicants’ experiences and expertise, selecting the beneficiaries by a local project committee comprising representatives from UNDP, SSSD, Union Craftsmen, Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor, Relief Committees and Local Councils.
Selection will be based on selection criteria, including their skills and ability to launch new business.
A team of experts in various professions will check their skill level. All beneficiaries will be required to attend a 10-day training course, covering the basic principles of entrepreneurship and its development.
Because child labor is considered a violation of childhood and a heavy burden that exceed the child’s size and capability, causing risks that endanger their lives and future and deprive them of their rights.
And based on monitoring many children exposed to labor and due to their lack of knowledge and their parents’ of its negative effects, SSSD Team implemented a campaign entitled “Small Size, Huge Burden”, on the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labor within CP program in all CCs and related AoRs in Homs, Hama, and Idlib governorates.
The campaign targeted children, adolescents from both genders, parents, caregivers and employers. It included awareness raising sessions implemented in coordination with PSS, GBV, educational support, legal support in cooperation with SARC and the Syrian Trust, and the health points.
in addition to series of recreational activities that included sport matches and competitions organized by the adolescents of child protection clubs. In addition to activities to integrate working children with their peers, to enforce their right to play and to emphasis the importance of developing their talents and skills.
The team cooperated and came to an agreement with the employers to find suitable time for children to attend the activities continually.
The CP clubs adolescents also visited the working children in their work places to offer them and their employers’ awareness raising messages, tools of protection, and souvenirs. In addition, they conducted meetings with children, employers and caregivers as a survey of their opinions about child labor.
The team also participated in preparing a media awareness campaign through radio and telecommunication networks and painting murals in several areas in the governorates to convey awareness raising messages about child labor to the largest segment of beneficiaries and to alleviate child labor and its effects.
